We all need some advice sometimes, but who can we ask, if there are no family members or friends available? Whether you need a plumber, a gardener or another expert in another field, the Expert App is designed to help you give competent advice in real time. This allows getting advice every time when it’s needed.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of competitors, how to measure the quality of the experts and what areas are required?

We’ve all found ourselves in situations where we just need advice or guidance from a professional, but we don’t have any friends or family that fit the bill. This app fills that gap by providing access to a professional in virtually any field.

Vocabulary App

People of all ages and backgrounds take courses. Learning something new, (and learning how to learn!), is a critical life skill no matter of age, location, or circumstances. With that said, it can be incredibly difficult to design a product or service that meets everyone’s needs at the same time—the world is full of all types, after all.

How might we design a mobile app that empowers people of different ages to learn new vocabulary?

DiSA – Digitales Sachsen-Anhalt

DiSA was a project of MDKK GmbH, which was funded by the state of Saxony-Anhalt within the framework of the “Sachsen-Anhalt Digital” funding programme. It was an intelligent app that leaves digital footprints in the state by means of Augmented Reality. As partners of DiSA, companies, cultural institutions, knowledge factories, cities and municipalities in Saxony-Anhalt have the opportunity to become designers of these footprints.
With the DiSA app, you can now explore and experience the state interactively.

“EXCELLENT PLACES IN THE LAND OF IDEAS” – GERMANY’S INNOVATION COMPETITION

In 2018, the competition “Excellent Landmarks in the Land of Ideas” awarded prizes to ideas and projects from Germany that combine living environments, that think outside the box and put familiar things to the test, that serve the common good without neglecting the innovative power of the individual. And which can also have a signal effect beyond Germany.

Website Stadt Strausberg

The green town on the lake – Strausberg – is regarded as a family-friendly, beautiful and active town, which is not stagnating but developing. As the largest town in the Märkisch-Oderland district of Brandenburg, Strausberg is an important point of contact for residents and guests alike. It is therefore particularly relevant to make all information easily accessible and barrier-free for the various target groups. A clear presentation of the multi-faceted economic, political, social and cultural activities of the city has therefore received special attention in the redesign.

When designing the new website, two special hurdles had to be overcome. On the one hand, to make it easy for the staff of the city administration to use and maintain the site and, on the other hand, to convert the volume (more than 800 pages) of the existing website into a clear and understandable structure.

In order to underline the image of the “green city” stylistically, the colour green was used as a central element and accompanied by light, friendly shades of colour. The three different subject areas citizens and city, culture and tourism as well as economy and traffic were integrated as menu items above the tiles and each received an expressive marking colour. This will support the user in the sense of a “red thread” in navigation and orientation on the subpages. The subpages themselves consist of versatile modules. These modules can be equipped with text, links, images or video material and faded in or out as desired. The service area is located at the top of the page and provides a search mask, contact options and language settings. In order to achieve a website that is as barrier-free as possible, the font sizes and color contrasts can be changed. Of course, a read aloud function is also included.

Climate 20XX

Many buttons and just as many keys, the constant increase in complexity due to the increase in functionalities, could present operators of future motor vehicles with exciting experiences. What are the chances of speech assistants, gestures or extended realities in the operation of climate control in the vehicle interior, if the premise is minimal distraction time and simple, intuitive operability.

In cooperation with climate research and the Volkswagen AG test person pool, new possibilities for designing user experiences were created in addition to various operating modes.

The expansion of the air conditioning system to include additional functions represents the climate control faces new challenges.
> Increasing number of functions
> Increasing complexity of the control system
This study is concerned with operating preferences, understanding and acceptance of new climate control elements (e.g. infrared emitters,
adaptable ventilation systems) in the vehicle.

How could the complexity of functions be represented in the future? Which distribution of information is preferred? (1st level,
submenu) Which operating characteristics, based on the concepts, can be for future climate control elements as design recommendations

Digitool AR App

“digitool” is a development based on Augmented Reality. The starting point was the feedback of various organizers of large and small events, whose problem was that they could no longer adapt, change or extend already produced materials such as posters, flyers or programs. How can one apply the trend of digitalization to print media and generate a whole new kind of user experience when print becomes interactive?
The result is a tool that displays digital elements, such as 3D models, videos, animations, etc., when the smartphone/tablet camera is aligned with appropriately marked pages. The advantage of this application is that the creator of this content can change it in real time. All content is constantly updated via a cloud and can therefore be easily planned over a long period of time.

The challenge was to get to grips with the still inherent game character of Augmented Reality and to evaluate seriously increasing fields of application in the print communication industry in order to make them available to the broad masses as a helpful, affordable and useful product.
